What is Stainless Steel plate ?

The stainless steel material is basically a low carbon steel material that has 10% chromium or more, by weight, in its chemical composition. The addition of the chromium increases the corrosion resistance properties of the stainless steel plate. It also leads to the formation of an invisible, adhesive and rough layer of chromium oxide that has corrosion resisting properties on its surface. The ASTM A240 Plate can also sustain any chemical or mechanical damage as it has self-healing properties.

However, it should be ensured that only a trace amount of oxygen is present. Several properties of the stainless steel along with corrosion resistance can be improved by increasing the total chromium content, along with adding other materials like molybdenum, nitrogen, and nickel. The SS Plate can be made up of different grades of stainless steel, and each of them possesses varied properties. There are several benefits of getting Stainless Plate, like:

  • It has a high strength
  • It is a very hygienic material
  • They come with different finishes and used in aesthetic applications
  • They can effectively resist corrosion.

The Cold Rolled Stainless Steel Plate goes through a work hardening process, which helps to change the metal structure. This procedure is often used for processing the stainless steel. These steel plates have a wide range of applications in industries like medical, aerospace, and automotive engineering.

The method of processing Stainless Steel CR Plate

The method of processing Stainless Steel CR Plate is quite different from that of a HR plate. The Stainless Steel HR Plate is rolled at a very high temperature, whereas for the CR plate is firstly hot rolled and then it is further processed in the cold reduction material. The CR plates are typically preferred over the HR plate due to their hardness, resistance against deformation and tension breaking, etc.

The Stainless Steel Diamond Plate is also known as the stainless steel floor plate, and they come with a raised diamond rug pattern. The design offers excellent resistance to skidding for various applications. They are primarily used in places where corrosion resistance is important. In an industrial environments, they are primarily used in staircases, platforms, etc., to improve overall safety.

Applications of Stainless Steel Plate

Where low maintenance and corrosion resistance is required, stainless steel plates are a natural choice and are used in a diverse range of applications from modern architecture for cladding or fascias, to the food hygiene industry due to its anti-bacterial qualities.

Industrial Use of Stainless Steel Plate

Examples of industrial uses of stainless steel plate are listed below.

  • Chemical and fuel tankers
  • Chemical and petro-chemical plants
  • Food processing and pharmaceutical industries where clean environments are required
  • Construction, modern architecture
